Accident Occurs on Amarnath Yatra Convoy as First Batch of Pilgrims Arrive in Jammu

<p>On Friday morning, the district government welcomed the first group of pilgrims for the annual Amarnath Yatra at the Kali Mata Temple in the Udhampur district. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police for Udhampur Sachin Kumar Vaishya, more people are anticipated to attend the Yatra pilgrimage this year than they did last. He said, “We have made suitable preparations for utilities, security, and lodging.</p>
<p>In preparation for their trek to the 3,880-meter-high cave sanctuary of Lord Shiva in the south Kashmir Himalayas, more than 3,500 devotees have gathered in Jammu.</p>

On the Jammu Srinagar National Highway in Udhampur, an Amarnath Security Convoy Vehicle was involved in an accident that left Deputy Superintendent of Police J&K Police and three other people injured. According to Senior Superintendent of Police Udhampur Vinod Kumar, injured individuals have been sent to the district hospital in Udhampur for treatment.</p>
<p>On Friday, the first group of pilgrims will leave the Bhagwati Nagar base camp for the twin base camps in Kashmir, under the flag of Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.</p>
<p>On Saturday, the Yatra will officially begin from its twin base camps in Baltal and Pahalgam.</p>
<p>A multi-tiered security structure has been implemented in and around the Bhagwati Nagar base camp, and an incoming pilgrimage convoy from Jammu to Kashmir will be heavily guarded by CRPF personnel with Army and police assuming control of the surrounding region.</p>
<p>According to a spokeswoman for the government, Sinha evaluated the preparations made for the pilgrims during a visit to the yatri niwas base camp on Thursday night. Sinha, who is also the chairman of the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board, reviewed security measures, the operation of joint control rooms, langer booths, registration counters, electricity and water supply, health facilities, and cleanliness in addition to taking an inventory of the pilgrims’ food and accommodation.<br />
He also looked over the transportation infrastructure, the placement of medical personnel, fire trucks, and emergency services.</p>
<p>A specific camp for the registration of sadhus has been put up in the Purani Mandi-based Ram temple complex, and on-the-spot registration booths have also been set up in the city’s Shalimar neighbourhood.</p>
