2023 Badminton Asia Championships: Kidambi Srikanth is eliminated, PV Sindhu and HS Prannoy advance

PV Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medalist, defeated China's Han Yue in straight games on Thursday to advance to the quarterfinals of the women's singles competition at the Badminton Asia Championships.

In addition to Sindhu, India's top men's singles shuttler HS Prannoy fought his way into the quarterfinals, while another countryman Kidambi Srikanth's career was over.

Eighth-seeded Prannoy had to fight for an hour and two minutes to defeat Indonesian Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo in the round of 16, while fourth-seeded Japanese Kodai Naraoka eliminated Srikanth 14-21 22-20 9-21.

Next up for Prannoy is Japanese player Kanta Tsuneyama.

In only 33 minutes, Sindhu defeated Yue 21-12 21-15 in a round of 16 match, displaying her deadly best.

Sindhu, the eighth seed, will next face Korea's An Se Young, the second seed. In mixed doubles, Rohan Kapoor and N Sikki Reddy advanced to the quarterfinals thanks to a walkover against the fourth-seeded Korean team of Seo Seung Jae Chae Yu Jung.

The Indonesian couple of Dejan Ferdinansyah and Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja will be the next to encounter the Indian couple.

B Sumeeth Reddy and Ashwini Ponnappa's time in the mixed doubles, however, was up when they fell 15-21, 17-21.

Sankireddy and Chirag Shetty, the sixth-seeded Indian team, defeated Jin Yong and Na Sung Seung with ease to get to the men's doubles quarterfinals as well.

The third-seeded Indonesian team of Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan will go up against the Indian combination.
